tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6984067990467963645.post7924914041854127..comments2024-03-21T22:22:59.425-07:00Comments on Vintage Pop Fictions: Sax Rohmer's Return of Sumurudfordoomhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comBlogger3125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6984067990467963645.post-64509449286968851052015-10-29T15:47:04.814-07:002015-10-29T15:47:04.814-07:00There are two Sumuru films with a black wigged Shi...There are two Sumuru films with a black wigged Shirley Eaton (GOLDFINGER) as Sumuru, the first THE MILLION EYES OF SUMURU with George Nader and Frankie Avalon (yes, Frankie Avalon) the closest to Rohmer (from Harry Allan Towers who did the sixties Fu Manchu films with Christopher Lee), and the second known as FUTURE WOMAN directed by Jesus Franco and with a guest part by George Sanders mostly strange and like many Franco films more than a bit hard to follow or excuse despite good moments.<br /><br />The first books featured a British hero in the Nayland Smith mold, but as the series began to appear in American paperback the FBI man Drake Roscoe took over, forever being seduced and hypnotized by Sumuru only to eventually free himself and foil his plots. <br /><br />Compared to Fu Manchu the Sumuru novels are a bit kinky and much more in line with their paperback original status in the states where they appeared from the famed Gold Medal line, but they are fairly interesting for late Rohmer, and the closest rival to Dr. F among his creations.<br /><br />Both of the Sumuru films are available on YouTube and there is an additional bizarre science fiction film of more recent years that makes Sumuru the queen of femdominated alien world that has to be seen to be believed but has little to do with Rohmer.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13147270334107882464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6984067990467963645.post-68927090657090013832013-09-23T02:43:42.915-07:002013-09-23T02:43:42.915-07:00I was very encouraged to find this site.
