And other reviewers seem, in general, to agree with that opinion. Great on plots and impossible crimes, but poor on writing. He does do the mechanics of the locked-room puzzle extremely well, I have to concede that.dfordoomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02306293859869179118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6984067990467963645.post-15869452642654976782018-06-22T08:49:32.071-07:002018-06-22T08:49:32.071-07:00Thanks for the review. 😊 I recall reading this ti...Thanks for the review. 😊 I recall reading this title, as part of the British Library reprints, with much interest and anticipation. And so perhaps the fervent expectation made me more critical of it eventually? I thought it had some great aspects - but found that the whole was lesser than the sum of its parts. And then there's Wynne tendency for bad, Victorian-era drama. The ending with the murderer kissing a dress was incredibly cringy.

Nevertheless, I would like to see more of his locked room novels coming back in print. As a hardcore locked room reader, I can take the flawed writing and Victorian drama if it comes with more of those clever and original impossible crimes.
