I read it in Spanish but it's possible that it was translated from English or French. It may have been published in the 1920's or 1930's. It was quite lengthy and it involved a young pilot in a swept-back-winged prototype that could only fly with a special fuel called "metilita". Aside from many of the particulars of the story, I can't remember much else, even the name of the author, which would instantly solve the problem. I know, this is like trying to hum a song over the telephone, but any help from you--even if it's pointers on how to conduct a better serch--would be much appreciated.
